The We're Makin' Waves Team

Lisa Purinton - Salon Owner

Stylist since 1985, Salon Owner since 1993. 1985 Graduate of Continental Academy of Hair Design, Hudson, NH. Notable advanced and continuing education includes: Matrix University salon management seminars, Haircolor USA, Graham Webb Academy, Paul Mitchell Signature Gathering, Bumble & bumble University. Aveda Haircolor training.

As a young person I chose the beauty industry for my love of fashion and my strong desire for beautiful hair! I always loved salons. One of my favorite things to do as a child was tag along with my mother when she went to her weekly "comb out" appointments in the 1970’s. The salon was a place that I felt comfortable and in my element. I would think to myself, this must be an amazing place to work! I thought the stylists were glamorous and I loved the social, lively environment. When I was in High School I thought about an education in business administration. My mother was like, "Are you kidding? You want to be a hairdresser?" Thanks, Mom.

I feel most passionate about people and the feel good side of a salon appointment. I have always loved being on the giving end of the stylist/client experience. It is truly rewarding to have made a career out of making people feel good. I feel passionate about my staff. Becoming a salon owner allowed me to create the kind of environment that I wanted to work in. The amazing women that I work with everyday, the camaraderie and true friendship we share is something that I will hold with me my entire life. Thanks ladies! Technically my passion is hair color. Hands down it is my favorite service to perform. I love the transformation that is achieved with the many amazing things that can be done with hair color. I've had the privilege to work with and get to know many wonderful men and women over the years. Thank you to all our loyal and dedicated clients!

Michelle "Shelby" Morse - Team Manager & Stylist

My name is Michelle Morse, but I'm best known as "Shelby." My love of cutting hair is my best asset in this industry. My consistency and knowledge of designing hairstyles that work for each client's needs and hair type are my strongest abilities. I enjoy coloring and highlighting techniques that can give that little extra something to a great cut. I graduated from New England School of Hair Design in West Lebanon, NH in 1993. I first worked for John Arsenault of the Hair Affair for one year after graduation. He sold the salon to or owner, Lisa Purinton, and I have remained a loyal employee. I have loved my 17 years employment at Weʼre Makinʼ Waves and plan to be here for many more!

Over the years, I have been to many training classes, shows and conferences for many professional salon product companies such as Matrix, Paul Mitchell, Bumble & Bumble, Aveda, Graham Webb to name a few. For training, I have traveled to Cleveland, Orlando, Boston, Las Vegas, Washington DC and NYC, as well as locations within New Hampshire. I have also benefited from regular in salon training every few month. I look forward to classes that can show me progressive ways of approaching a cut or color.

My Passion of being a hairstylist started way back in early elementary school and I have been so fortunate to have found a career so satisfying, challenging, creative and rewarding. Training and teaching new stylists is also a side to hairstyling that I am very interested in. Sharing with new stylist the tips, techniques and skills that I have learned over the years is genuinely rewarding, as I see their talents and confidence build, and I know that I helped build that foundation.

Debra Peloquin Shea - Stylist

I discovered my love for making people over early in life. My fascination with design and beauty led first to my decision to major in art at the University of Hartford in Hartford CT, which then led me to enroll at the Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia as a fashion illustration major. Soon thereafter, I completed my education as a cosmetologist at the Jean Madeline Education Center for Cosmetology, Aveda institute in Philadelphia. After graduation I worked at the Jean Madeline Aveda concept salon in Plymouth, PA for four years before relocating home to the Upper Valley in 1998.

I began my career at Weʼre Makinʼ Waves in September 1998. Advanced education and training has been a priority. I've attended various cosmetology classes, including mesche french techniques, and have attended training in NYC, Boston Philadelphia and Las Vegas. Most recently I attended Bumble & bumble University. I also attend regular in salon classes with Bumble and Aveda.

My strongest talent is my ability to create amazing hair art styles. I love to do all braids, big or small, knotting or designs I've made up. I love putting hair up. It's like building a sculpture and creating a work of art in three dimensions. I also have strong abilities in hair color with my art background, as well as a true love of styling hair. Its extremely satisfying to beautify someone using skills I love!

Sarah Taylor - Stylist

As a child I always wanted to be a hairstylist. My dream toy was to receive the large Barbie head with the long hair that you could style. Although I never received the Barbie head, years later I got to live out my dream on real people.

After high school I tried my hand at college for a few years and then various retail jobs. Feeling burnt out and unfulfilled, my mother reminded me of my original dream: becoming a hairstylist. At the age of 24 I decided to try out cosmetology school.

I completed my training at the New England School of Hair Design in West Lebanon, NH in a little over a year and then began my awesome career at Weʼre Makinʼ Waves! I have been styling hair at Makin' Waves since 2002. I have completed various types of continued education through the years, including advanced cutting at the Graham Webb Academy in Washington DC, Advanced design workshop at Bumble & bumble university in NYC. Various Aveda skin care classes, hair coloring and instruction on putting hair up for formal styles. I've also attended many different one day cutting, coloring and highlighting classes provided throughout the NH area. We also have monthly in-salon classes on product knowledge and usage, color education and styling techniques.

I love working at Weʼre Makinʼ Waves and view my coworkers more like family!

Mary Young - Stylist

I have always had a passion for the fashion and beauty industry. Through my sixteen years of experience in this career field I have trained and worked for various cosmetic lines, which eventually led me to cosmetology school where I received my cosmetology license. I continued advanced education at the Graham Webb Academy and Bumble & bumble University. I have trained with top hair stylists and received certification in various cutting techniques. I also have a interest in Skin Care and have attended several classes on this topic with Aveda.

I am also skilled in multicultural hair and textures. I have much knowledge and experience in performing all types of relaxers. This gives me an advantage and the ability to understand all types and textures of hair.

I love being creative working with color and shapes. Needless to say my work is important to me and my goal is to continue gathering as much knowledge as I can for future styles. It makes my day when I can make someone simile and feel good. This is why I love my career.

Lacie Scearbo - Stylist

I have always had a fascination with the Beauty Industry. As a young girl I loved to visit my Aunt's salon on Saturday mornings. The feeling I got when I walked into the salon, it was fun and "girlie" a comfortable and special place. The client/stylist relationship, the glamour, the products and the feeling of helping someone feel good. It all seemed like magic.

I graduated from the New England School of Hair Design in 2004. My continued education includes: Graham Webb Academy, Bumble & bumble University, and continuing education and hair color training with Aveda. Now that I have my own career in this industry, I truly enjoy all aspects of my work. I do feel most passionate about color services. Color will change your whole world!

I consider myself proficient in scissors and razor cutting, texturizing and clipper cuts. I am also expert at all aspects of hair coloring, foiling, and all perming techniques.

Sabrina Mulherin - Stylist/Kerastase Ambassador

I can without any hesitation tell you that I was meant to be in this industry. Hair styling, makeup, fashion, and art run through my veins. Even when I'm not behind the chair at work, my creative mind in always dreaming up some new style, shape, color placement, or crazy photo shoot idea.

My mother was a hairstylist for some time after she graduated from high school. My father is an amazing artist and painter, and he was even the barber on the ship that he was assigned to in the navy. So I guess you could say that I was born into this profession. I knew at a very young age that I thought that getting my hands in someone’s hair and seeing what I could mold it into was a very cool thing! I have pictures of me and “my early work” at the age of 5 or 6, teasing up and hair spraying my grampa’s hair and rolling my mim’s hair in pink foam rollers (what great sports they were). I only wanted dolls and barbies to play with and cut off their hair, and in Junior High I managed to convince my best friend to let me use her as a model for my first haircut. Thanks Amanda, sorry Amanda’s parents! In High School I really got into art and fashion design. I spent a lot of my free time at home with my head buried in a sketch pad or a Vogue Magazine. So when graduation rolled around, it boiled down to Cosmetology School, or Art School. I decided that I did not want to be a “starving artist,” so I chose the path that would let me pursue art through hair and makeup. I graduated from N.E.S.H.D in 1996 and I have never second-guessed my choice. I LOVE MY JOB!!

I believe that hair styling is an ever changing art that requires maintaining the most current skills, techniques, and trends. Over the years I have very diligently continued my education in pursuit of honing my skills and soaking up as many tips and tricks as I possibly can. I have attended academies all over the country through some of the most prestigious names in the industry including Vidal Sassoon, Eufora International, Graham Webb, Kevin Murphy, Redken 5th Avenue, and many more. I also attend in salon training through Bumble and Bumble, Aveda, and L’Oréal Professional.

I consider myself to be a very passionate, technical, and creative stylist. I dare say even a bit of a perfectionist. I look at each guest in my chair as an individual, and I approach each cut, color, and style as a sculpture. It is very important to me that I give each client the most pleasant, attentive, professional, and personal experience every time I see them. I think that I excel at precision and artistic/edgy haircuts, creative color techniques, and long hairdressing. I especially love working with the razor, and stepping out of the box when it comes to fun and edgy hair. I also have a HUGE passion for Vintage/Retro hair styling. I think I should have been around in the 40's/50's Pinup Era. My other obsession is Avante Garde/Editorial looks, and Theatrical/Artistic Makeup. This passion has evolved over the years into a strong aspiration to eventually build a portfolio and expand my career and pursue editorial work, and runway hair and makeup. My hopes are to someday see some of my work in print, and to send in some of it to N.A.H.A (North American Hairdressing Awards).

Meredith Martin - Stylist/Marketing Director

All my life I have been fascinated by fashion and hair as well as all forms of art and color expression. My travels early in life gave me a unique sense and appreciation for natural beauty of all forms. Time spent as a child in my grandmother's art studio sparked my interest in shape and texture as well as my fascination with color and the endless formulation possibilities.

My interest in fashion and hair led me to modeling school where I got an early start on my training with make up and hair classes. I later competed in international modeling competitions in Los Angeles where I was happily successful, however I realized that the eternal pursuit for physical perfection was not how I wanted to spend my life. What I decided would be more meaningful would be to dedicate my time to embracing and enhancing natural beauty and positive self esteem. I enrolled in cosmetology school in 2002. After graduating and getting my cosmetology license, I worked briefly at Weʼre Makinʼ Waves before opening my own salon in 2004. I owned and operated my salon for five and a half years. It was a wonderful experience for me. I spent my time growing my skills in every aspect of the salon; color, highlighting, different hairstyling techniques as well as the business aspect of the salon.

After having my daughter Gabriella, and resuming my role as a student taking college classes, I decided that I wanted to simplify my life. I sold my salon in March of 2010. I was fortunate to have many options to choose from but I knew I only wanted to be back at Weʼre Makinʼ Waves. Lisa is a truly conscientious business owner who focuses on the balance of customer/employee happiness and also places a high value on continuing education. She and all the girls make the salon such a wonderful place to be. I am very happy and proud to be back with the Weʼre Makinʼ Waves family!

Not having to worry about the business aspect of salon allows me to focus solely on what I love; color, highlights and of course; haircuts, blow outs and formal up styles. My newest passion in the salon is Balayage, a highlighting technique that I was introduced to during an in salon class given by an educator from California. Balayage is a highlighting technique that allows freedom of expression with a beautiful and natural application. I look forward to growing as a stylist with the Makinʼ Waves family for many years to come.

Jessie Storm Ferriot - Stylist/ Bumble and Bumble Network Educator

I attended Castleton State College in Vermont (1993-1995) with course concentrations in film, education, english and communications. After taking a six year sabbatical from school, I applied to art school and the University of Vermont. Both options were going to be expensive and a large time investment, so I went to cosmetology school. I attended the New England School of Hair Design and graduated in 2002. I have fifteen years of extensive training in products, cuts, and color and have found myself in a profession that is ever changing and allows me to do a different art medium.

I am the Bumble & bumble network educator for Weʼre Makinʼ Waves. This means that I am the ambassador for Bb within the salon. I conduct monthly training, motivation and inspiration for my colleges. Having this affiliation with Bumble & bumble allows me to have specialized training at Bumble & bumble University. It is a amazing opportunity for personal and professional growth.

Iʼve had the wonderful experience of working in both city and small town alike and have worked on many different types of hair. I hope to continue the pursuit of great hair in the Upper Valley working for Weʼre Makinʼ Waves.
